Return to The Dell

Bottom's Dream

With great delight we can report that this year we have been successful in our application to take part in the RSC’s summer programme at The Dell! We will be resuming our annual August outing in Stratford with Bottom’s Dream, conceived and directed by Pat Cannings and Graham Paton.

Although it draws its material from the same play as our main summer show this year, Bottom’s Dream is something altogether different which tells the story of Nick Bottom the weaver in a unique way. Read more below to discover what it's all about...

Our big day in Stratford is on 12th August. Then, as in previous years, we will do a tour of local venues at the beginning of October – dates for this are booked between the 5th and the 11th in Bradford on Avon, Bath, Chippenham, Corsham and Devizes. The show will make the very most of the opportunities for mayhem and comedy that the scenario offers! There is scope for a cast of about a dozen or so and we hope there are plenty of members who would like to join the fun.

Auditions will be held on Monday 22nd May at 7.30 in Rudloe Community Centre. All members are welcome, as are newcomers to Shakespeare Live. Details have been sent to members by email, or can be obtained by contacting us on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

“I have had a dream past the wit of man to say what dream it was … It shall be called ‘Bottom’s Dream’ because it hath no bottom…”

Summer 2017

July 2017 will be an exciting time for Shakespeare Live and for our many loyal and regular audience members.

This is the month that will see us step out on stage for the first time in our new venue. We now know that our new home is to be Cleeve House at Seend, a venue ideally suited to this year's show, the perennial favourite 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Directed with characteristic flair by Rod Moor-Bardell it is sure to be a visual treat and a comic delight!

'The Dream' is one of William Shakespeare's best loved plays. Its mix of tangled love, enchanted forest, magical fairies and aspiring thespians has captivated audiences throughout the ages.

Shakespeare Live's first production at Cleeve House promises an evening of spectacular entertainment as director Rod Moor-Bardell weaves a tapestry of song, dance, music and above all excellent acting for your enjoyment of this timeless play.

The show will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the life of this long-standing, successful and highly regarded theatre company - whether you are an old friend or an interested newcomer, this one is absolutely not to be missed. Booking opens in April and you will find all you need on our 'Booking' and 'Performance Info' pages.

(If you were a visitor to our 2016 production of The Tempest you may have seen our 2017 show advertised as King Lear. Rest assured, our Lear will come, but in view of our change of venue we have decided to hold it over for another year...)
